MIAMI, United States.- The mysterious “sound attacks” carried out in Havana against American and Canadian diplomats, as well as their families, included children. Miners are among those affected by a series of still unexplained attacks, Canadian government documents reveal.

A report published this Thursday in the National Post reports that Global Affairs Canada officials had already discovered in April that Canadian embassy staff and their families in Cuba were complaining of mysterious health problems.

The scandal over the alleged Havana attacks only broke in August 2016 and had serious consequences for diplomatic relations with Washington. President Donald Trump has ordered the expulsion of Cuban embassy staff in the United States, as well as the reduction of up to 60% of American consulting staff on the island.

For this reason, the bilateral agreement reached its lowest point since December 2014, when then-President Barack Obama and Raúl Castro officially announced a rapprochement between the two governments.

Last May, Canadians scrambled to determine whether serious symptoms reported by their diplomats – including, according to the documents, loss of memory, hearing and even consciousness – could be psychosomatic due to extreme stress due to fear of attack.
