Tenth edition of the Asterisk Festival – La Tribu Noticias

From Thursday, October 26 to Sunday, November 5, the tenth edition of the Asterisk Festival will be held in the city of Buenos Aires. The event has several locations: Malba, CCK, Recoleta Cultural Center, Haroldo Conti Cultural Memory Center, Cinema Museum, Hasta Trilce, Otra Historia and Puticlú Cultural Center; all its screenings are free.

Since its appearance in 2014, the space aimed to spread the thoughts and feelings of LGBTIQ+ cinema so that its access becomes more massive and that it is not a small, restricted, repeated and stagnant place, but rather to be able to offer different horizons to explore today. , past and future of audiovisual productions.

Unlike previous editions, what the organization highlights this time is that one of the main triumphs is that it now receives and finds more Argentine films that challenge the community, without the need to go out and look for productions foreign. This year, the Argentine competitions are more extensive, both in feature films and short films, and several are world premieres, whose filmmakers choose Asterisk to show their works for the first time in public.

Before, it was a task that we had to accomplish throughout the year: to find an Argentinian film that could participate in the festival and that represents LGTBIQ+ cinema outside of certain canons, repetitions and repressions to express sexual and gender diversity. gender identity. Argentine cinema was very difficult during those years“he said Diego Trerotola, coordinator of the Asterisk Festival.

In addition to the great presence of Latin American and Caribbean cinema with productions from Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Panama and Puerto Rico, the link with international cinema remains in force, with views of filmmakers like Canadian Theo Jean Curthand. , director Alejandro Marín and Spanish producer and screenwriter Carmen Garrido Vacas, and Israeli Yair Qetar, who will present their films for the first time in the country in this edition of Asterisk.

One of these cases is that of the trans-Indigenous-Canadian director, Theo Jean Cuthand, who will present his latest 6 works at the festival. His work of documentary essays covers very diverse subjects: “from sexual fetishes to earthly issues with an ecological view“, he stressed Trerotola. Théo will come to give a public lecture, he invented the term “indig-queer”.
