Mediapro fires Jaume Roures after 30 years at the head of the group

The board of directors of the Mediapro group approved this Friday, at the request of its majority partner, the separation of Jaume Roures from the management of the group, after 30 years at the head of it, At the same time, it ratified Tatxo Benet, also managing partner, as president and CEO.

Roures and Benet have been key players in the evolution not only of the Mediapro group, but have been “world leaders in the audiovisual sector”, as Mediapro highlighted this Friday in a press release.

Likewise, all members of the Mediapro management team will also normally retain their functions: Juan Ruiz de Gauna, general manager; Eva Abans, financial director; Josep Ensesa, legal advisor; José Luis Rubio, director of broadcast and media services; Laura Fernández Espeso, director of Studio Mediapro; Carmen Fernández Tallón, director of innovation; or Carme Anglada, communications director.

The CEO, Tatxo Benet said Mediapro has become “a large, resilient company that has shown that it always knows how to overcome any new challenge.” and stressed that the 7,000 people who work in the group will continue to do so with the same “efficiency, effectiveness and dedication”.

He stressed that the entire management team and its CEO are “totally aligned” with the group’s shareholder partners, Southwind and WPP, with whom they share “transparently” the future project of the company, and ” there is not the slightest disagreement.”

For Benet, “there has not been the slightest change either in the founding project or in the values ​​that the group represents and there will not be any as long as this management team is in place”, which is the one who established. in practice for thirty years because the shareholders share this project and its values, which “were decisive in the valuation of their investment in Mediapro”.

In Mediapro’s short period of existence, Roures and Benet have developed a business used by major sporting entities across five continents. (FIFA, UEFA, Olympic Games, Pan American Games, European Games, FIBA, LaLiga), has produced films and series that have won numerous awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmy, Independent Spirit, European Film Awards or Bafta, and has been the vanguard of the radical process of innovation that the audiovisual world has experienced in recent years.

Created in Barcelona in 1994, The Mediapro Group is made up of more than 7,000 professionals present in 30 countries.

Its large business units, Broadcast and Media Service, Le Studio Mediapro, Audiovisual Rights Management and Innovation and New Audiences, billed 1,209 million euros in 2022, with an EBITDA of 190 million.

Currently, Mediapro markets international rights, in addition to the Spanish Liga, to competitions such as the Belgian or Canadian league, national teams of Canada, Peru or Chile and sports competitions such as baseball, golf, paddle tennis, skateboarding and hockey, and was also a pioneer in the marketing of premium sports content without ties to telephone service operators.
