REGINA JAQUESS MAINTAINING HER LEADERSHIP IN WATER SKIING

The United States delegation continues to add gold medals to the medal table. So far, the North American country has 46 gold medals at these Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Water skiing superstar Regina Jaquess has won three of a possible five gold medals in the women’s water skiing events. The American, who won three gold medals at the Lima 2019 and Toronto 2015 Games, triumphed in the slalom, jump and general classification categories and sealed her participation in these Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Jaquess earned 1,000 points in slalom after avoiding a buoy for 10.25 meters and finishing first in the standings. In the show jumping event, Jaquess repeated the first position and the same number of points (1,000). With a jump of 50.7 meters, she became the absolute favorite to win the gold medal in this event.

In the numbers event, North American Anna Gay, 5th in the world rankings, added 10,600 points to take first place in the event. While the Canadian Paige Rini with 8,890 and Daniela Verswyvel with 8,740 closed the podium. However, the historic Jaquess, with only 6,710, was enough to be the athlete with the most points in the three events of the day and achieve victory in the general classification.

MEN’S WATER SKIING

On the men’s side, Canadian Dorien Llewellyn won the gold medal with a total of 2,970 points. The podium was completed by the Argentinian Tobías Giorgis (2,689) who won silver and the Chilean Martín Labra (2,671) with bronze.

In the slalom event, Tobías Giorgis tied with Mexican Alvaro Lamadrid with four evasive buoys over 10.75 meters. Both competitors scored 1,000 points. While Dorien Llewellyn, the overall winner, completed the podium with 3 buoys in 10.75 meters.

In the show jumping event, Argentina’s Tobías Giorgis took first place, while Canadian Dorien Llewellyn, in second, and Chile’s Martín Labra, in third, completed the podium.

The Canadian athlete placed first in the spins, adding 1,000 points that will allow him to win the gold medal and the double championship at the overall tournament of the Pan American Games.

WAKEBOARD

Men’s wakeboarding was the last competition held in water skiing, at Laguna Los Morros de San Bernardo. In this category, Argentine Kai Ditsch (88.33) added another gold medal for Argentina and achieved what his brother Ulf Ditsch could not achieve at Lima 2019. Meanwhile, Hunter Smith (82.67) added another silver medal for Canada and American Daniel Johnson (78.33) closed the podium with bronze.
