Here’s how the program that allows you to obtain a permit to study in Canada in 20 days works

Canada is one of the most sought-after countries by thousands of Latin Americans looking for a destination to move to, whether for work, study or business.

Its multiple programs are known, which although they are rigorous in the processes and requirements they require, propose alternatives to travel and settle legally in this country.

One such program is the Student Direct Stream (SDS)a process that allows candidates to obtain a permit to study in Canada as quickly as possible.

Depending on the application and the country from which it is made, thanks to the SDS, you can obtain a study permit in just 20 days. However, some requests may take longer.

The speed of processing depends mainly on the applicant providing their biometric data as soon as possible and meeting all eligibility conditions.

But beware, those concerned must take into account, as the Government of Canada points out, that the study permit is not a visa and does not in itself allow them to travel or enter Canada.

“You may also need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (ETA). If you do, we will issue your visitor visa or ETA along with your study permit”they explain.

Requirements include having a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution and living outside of Canada when the request is submitted.

Have paid tuition fees for the first year of study and have a guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) of CAD 10,000 (This is a low-risk, rate-assured, deposit-type investment that can be purchased at banks in that country).

In addition, if required, applicants must undergo a medical examination before applying, obtain a police certificate and have all school records available (elementary, secondary and university, if applicable).

In addition, there are language requirements. For English, applicants must present an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening); and for French, a score on the French Evaluation Test (TEF), which is equal to a score on the Canadian Language Benchmark (NCLC), of at least 7 in each skill.
