This Monday, the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, spoke out to reject the interference of the Government of Canada in the internal affairs of the country, in particular the border conflict between Venezuela and Guyana in the territory of Essequibo.

“The territorial controversy surrounding Guayana Esequiba does not concern you. I recommend that you @melaniejoly take care of your problems. Canada’s position is interventionist, provocative and hostile. We will not allow you to disrupt our path to peace, we have a well-defined agenda by the Geneva Agreement and you are not part of it.
On December 15, the Government of Canada announced:through a declaration– which supports the government of Guyana in the border conflict with Venezuela.
Likewise, he expresses that Canada reaffirms its support for the sovereignty of Guyana and seeks a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the dispute before the International Court of Justice.
It should be noted that Venezuela has reiterated since the beginning of the territorial conflict that it would only be resolved through the Geneva Agreement, as agreed by the parties.
On December 14, President Nicolás Maduro and his Guyanese counterpart, Irfaan Ali, signed a joint declaration pledging to maintain dialogue and peace to resolve the Guayana Esequiba territorial dispute.
