Canadian soldiers took part in attacks against the Houthis in Yemen

Toronto (Canada), January 12 (EFE).- Canadian soldiers participated in the attacks launched this morning by the United States and the United Kingdom against the military positions of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, the Government of Canada confirmed this Friday .

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly and Defense Minister Bill Blair said in a statement that “Canadian Armed Forces personnel deployed to United States Central Command (CENTCOM)” participated in the attacks.

“These precision strikes are consistent with the United Nations Charter and demonstrate the international community’s commitment to defending freedom of navigation and international trade in the Red Sea,” the Canadian ministers said.

The Canadian government condemned “the Houthis' irresponsible attacks on commercial vessels and their crews operating in the Red Sea” and said they have a “direct impact on the flow of food, fuel, humanitarian aid and 'other essential raw materials' across the country. .

Houthi rebels said on Friday that five of their fighters had been killed following airstrikes launched by the United States and the United Kingdom against their positions.

The Houthis also assured that they would continue to attack ships in the Red Sea despite the bombardments.
