La Jornada – Canadian businessman murdered in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo

Playa del Carmen, Q.roo. A Canadian businessman, residing in Playa del Carmen, was executed with a firearm while driving a car with his youngest daughter, who was injured.

Through social media, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported “today, Saturday, a firearm homicide was recorded on the federal highway Cancun-Playa del Carmen and Av. Xcalacoco in the municipality of Solidaridad. The victim is a man of foreign origin with permanent resident immigrant status since 2013. There are two detainees and the firearm used was seized. A minor suffered minor injuries and is out of danger.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., subjects on motorcycles intercepted the car, a red Audi, on Xcalacoco Avenue and Playa del Carmen Boulevard, and shot him in the neck with a firearm.

After the attack, the alleged perpetrators fled but were intercepted almost immediately by police on a nearby patrol.

The police received the report of the armed attack, and after a chase they managed to arrest two men.

According to information gathered at the scene, the victim was a real estate agent and lived alone with his minor daughter, both of Canadian origin.

So far, the reason for the event is unknown; As a result, the number of people executed in 2022 increases to 20.
