In addition to accompanying the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, during his speech before the plenary session of the General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, had an intense program of activities.

The Secretary of State participated in the Security Council’s open debate “Defending the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations through Effective Multilateralism: Maintaining the Peace and Security of Ukraine.”

During his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs declared that “Chile once again expresses its total rejection and condemnation of the war crimes perpetrated on Ukrainian territory, controlled by Russian forces, and reported by the Mission of UN investigation in Ukraine. He added that “Chile firmly believes that the International Criminal Court should be the most appropriate body to hear and investigate all crimes committed in Ukraine under its jurisdiction, always keeping in mind the principles of complementarity and cooperation “.

“The effects of this war of aggression and the restoration of justice in Ukraine present new challenges to us as an international community. Facing these challenges in search of the best possible solution requires the solidarity of all of us.

During the day, the Chancellor also participated in the event “Feminist Foreign Policy and Feminist Approaches to Foreign Policy as Accelerators of Positive Change by Turning Commitments into Actions”. The activity, organized by Chile with Germany, Spain, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, aimed to share experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities that exist in countries with a foreign policy feminist.

Early in the morning, the Minister participated in a high-level breakfast hosted by Belgium, the Blue Leaders and the BBNJ High Ambition Coalition and accompanied President Gabriel Boric during the signing of the BBNJ Treaty.

Bilateral

The Chancellor also met with her Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt, with whom she discussed key aspects of the bilateral relationship and the two countries’ commitment to protecting the ocean.

Subsequently, he had a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, with whom he discussed Chile’s participation in the UNHCR and the migration situation facing Latin America as a result. of the crisis in Venezuela.

The minister also accompanied the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, during bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, as well as with the presidents of Peru, Dina Boluarte, and of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski.
