Ubasart bets on government clarity deal ‘to resolve political conflict’

GIRONA, August 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Justice, Rights and Memory of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Gemma Ubasart, defended the clarity agreement proposed by the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, as “a means of resolving the political conflict between the Catalonia and the Spanish State”. according to a government statement this Sunday collected by Europa Press.

He said this during the ‘Víctor Torres Masterclass: 150 years of the First Republic and the Catalan State’ held at the Universitat Catalana d’Estiu (UCE) in Prada de Conflent (France), with the president of the UCE, Jordi Casassas, the ex-minister Josep Huguet and the historian Manuel Pérez.

During the conference, Minister Ubasart insisted that one way to achieve the “recognition of sovereignty” of Catalonia is the clarity agreement, inspired by the Canadian model.

An agreement that unites the sovereignist forces and allows “the citizens of Catalonia to freely decide on the political future with the commitment of the Spanish government to respect” their decision.

He said that “despite the interests of certain parties in turning federalism into an alibi to oppose the independence movement”, the two do not have to be opposing movements.

THE MONARCHY

The Minister also underlined that “the Bourbon monarchy is one of the main obstacles to the political, social and territorial democratization” of Spain.

“He endorsed the repression and closed the door to any negotiated solution,” he said in reference to King Felipe VI’s speech on October 3, 2017.

He criticized the fact that Catalonia “continues without having its sovereignty recognized within the Spanish state”.
