The Mayor of Rivas, Aída Castillejo, and the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior of the Community of Madrid, Carlos Novillo, held a meeting today focused on the continued promotion of the Pact regional for Cañada Real. This agreement was signed in 2017 and includes the Spanish government, the Community of Madrid and the municipalities of Madrid, Coslada and Rivas Vaciamadrid, through which the Cañada Real passes. His signature represented an important step and the unanimity of all administrations and political forces in the search for solutions for Canada.

In this sense, the meeting is part of a series of meetings that were requested by the Rivas City Hall with the different political representatives regarding the status of the Pact and the objectives of implementation throughout the legislature. In addition to the mayor and the councilor, the meeting was attended by the two commissioners of the Cañada Real of the City Hall and the Community, Pedro del Cura and Ignacio Sánchez Segura, as well as the deputy councilor Rafael García González.

Both administrations shared the importance of reinvigorating the political initiative on the Compact, based on the loyalty and unanimity of all parties involved. Castillejo transmitted the proposal to establish a common roadmap that clarifies the steps of this legislature to guarantee its compliance.

Among other objectives, the mayor of Rivas, who thanked the participation of the highest officials of the Community of Madrid in the meeting, proposed to resume the necessary agreements to guarantee a stable road map that resolves “the problems of Cañada, which continues to be the largest nucleus of social exclusion in the country. He also highlighted the need to have a direct line between the ministry and the municipalities, as well as constant collaboration between the commissioners.

Finally, the Rivas City Council proposed to organize joint sessions between the administrations that are part of the Pact for the Cañada Real in order to share progress, publicize the work carried out and generate synergies between the different actors involved in the Cañada.
