WOMEN’S MOUNTAIN CYCLING CROWNED CANADIAN JACKSON
Canada, Chile and Brazil repeated the men’s podium in the same order as in the morning competition. And special: the silver went to the Chilean Vidaurre brothers in both categories.
On the second day of women’s mountain biking, held at the Universidad Católica Sports Club in the Chilean capital, the gold medal went to six-time UCI MTB winner Jennifer Jackson with a time of 1: 20.35.
Chilean Catalina Vidaurre won silver, crossing the finish line 2:45 minutes later. Bronze went to Brazilian Raiza Goulao.
Regarding second place, Catalina Vidaurre said that “she didn’t have a plan” as such for these 2023 Pan American Games.
“These are my first Pan American Games, I didn’t expect silver at all, I dreamed of the podium. The public helped me not to give up on my perseverance,” said Catalina Vidaurre.
The Chilean had a thrombosis this year which compromised her participation in the Games, so her performance was a surprise even for her. Two hours earlier, his brother Martín had won the same medal in the same men’s event, also overtaken by a Canadian and ahead of a Brazilian.
Despite the temporal distances between each cyclist, the competition was marked by the encouragement of hundreds of spectators and also by the riders themselves, who, upon crossing the finish line, awaited the arrival of their adversaries to congratulate them for the race which consisted of achieving the best. time in seven long laps.
