COLOMBIA DOMINATES BMX RACES AND MARIANA PAJÓN GETS THE GOLD MEDAL

Mariana Pajón won her third gold medal at the Pan American Games.

Mariana Pajón won her third gold medal at the Pan American Games. The silver medal went to the Canadian Molly Simpson and the bronze medal to the Colombian Gabriela Bolle.

Colombia was the dominant country in this competition. Mariana Pajón revalidated what she achieved in Guadalajara 2011 and Lima 2019. The coffee producer set a time of 34,400 seconds. The one also known as the “Queen of BMX” was the absolute dominatrix during the quarter-finals, semi-finals and subsequent final of the discipline.

“It’s very important for me. It’s a goal I wanted this year, to come here and achieve it, it’s great. With a lot of effort, it was a great challenge, even if the year was difficult, between ups and downs, but I managed it. The level of competition is very good, especially from the Colombians, with Gabi, we finally have someone from Colombia. I ran several time here in Chile and it went very well, there is a very good energy. Every year is more difficult, you can’t imagine how I ride, it’s very painful, but it excites me, it’s why we are here,” added Pajón. Furthermore, the six-time world champion dedicated the victory to her team, who believed in her despite two surgeries on her right elbow.

The silver medal went to 20-year-old Canadian Molly Simpson, who clocked 36.00 seconds.

“This is my second Pan American Games. In Lima 2019 I couldn’t get the result I expected. We continue to gain points for Paris 2024. I’m happy with the medal, it’s something very beautiful. Competing alongside Mariana (Pajón) is something extraordinary,” said bronze medal winner Gabriela Bolle, with a time of 36.500 seconds.

The scores obtained in this discipline are added to the general table of the BMX Racing world ranking.

The event took place in the presence of David Lappartient, president of the International Cycling Union, who presented the medals. José Manuel Peláez, president of the Pan American Cycling Confederation, was also present.
