BRAZIL WON TWO KAYAK CROSS K1 GOLDS IN SANTIAGO 2023

The winner among women, Ana Sátila, obtained her second gold medal after the one she won in the morning in the C1 category.

The last competition in the natural area of the Aconcagua River hosted the men’s and women’s K1 Kayak Cross races, in which Brazil won both gold medals in their country thanks to the talented Ana Sátila and the energetic Guilherme Marcello Mapelli. .

In this competition, four competitors from the nations of Brazil, Canada, Peru and Mexico were launched at the same time. It is in this order that the canoeists reached the finish line after having crossed the six obstacle gates which were part of the event.

The glory of first place in men’s K1 went to Brazilian Guilherme Marcello Mapelli, who obtained his first Pan-American medal. He was followed by Canadian Alex Baldoni, who won silver and finally, Peruvian Eriberto Gutiérrez, who won bronze.

“What I liked most about Chile was the organization. The support from the volunteers was very friendly. Also, the only word that came to mind before entering the water was force (strength/victory),” commented Mapelli.

The women’s competition was won by the Brazilian Ana Sátila, who thus revalidated her title obtained in Lima 2019.

Lois Betteridge of Canada won the silver medal and the bronze medal went to the United States with Evy Leibfarth.

A curious fact among the competitors is that they were both very close friends, and this was reflected in the mutual support they exchanged after completing each competition. Lois Betteridge (CAN) and Evy Leibfarth (USA) enjoyed sharing the podium.

“I’m happy, the results came a little later so I was surprised to be on the podium, so I’m happy,” said silver winner Betteridge.

“The end was a big fight. We have all been striving to reach one of the top three points, but right now I am excited to be on the podium with a friend of mine, that makes it very special,” said Leibfarth.
