ARCHERY CALLS FOR PANA-AMERICAN CHAMPIONS AND ISSUES QUOTAS FOR PARIS 2024

The gold medalists of the mixed teams and the top two countries in the men’s and women’s individual recurve events will qualify for Paris 2024.

The recurve and compound archery competitions will take place from October 1 to 5, 2023 at the Peñalolén archery range. The first day will be devoted to the ranking rounds of the 10 events included in this competition, in which 98 archers from 17 different countries will participate.

The Lima 2019 medal table was dominated by the United States and Canada, with two gold medals each.

This sport is characterized by precision, which is why its athletes must demonstrate great concentration. It takes place on flat surfaces and on parallel tracks for the different competitors. The two modalities of this discipline are a classic bow, which is shot at a distance of 70 meters, and at a target of 122 centimeters in diameter. With a compound bow, you shoot at 50 meters, with a target of 80 centimeters. The two modalities are mixed.

Among the notable athletes to watch at Santiago 2023 is Canadian recurve specialist Crispin Duenas, who was a double gold medalist in the individual and team categories at Lima 2019. He also won medals in silver at the World Archery Championships in 2013, in 2011. Pan American Games in individual and team recurve at Rio 2007.

Also present at Santiago 2023 will be American Casey Kaufhold, 19, who at Lima 2019 won two gold medals, in the women’s team and mixed team, and a bronze, in the women’s singles. Additionally, he won the silver medal at the 2021 Archery World Championships in Yakton and has six Archery World Cup medals.

Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia (in main photo) won gold in singles, silver in women’s team and bronze in mixed team in recurve at the last Pan American Games in Lima 2019. Also bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Her at the Pan American Games is considerable having won silver at Toronto 2015 and two medals at Guadalajara 2011.

The Colombian Sara López competes in the compound bow modality and has been crowned world champion eight times. His last title was at the Hermosillo 2023 Archery World Cup. He currently holds 12 world records, 24 world cup medals, five world championships and five Guinness records.
