PAHO supports Nicaragua in the digital transformation of the health sector with funding from Canada and the United States – PAHO/WHO

Managua, October 11, 2022 (PAHO/WHO).- The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) supports the efforts of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) in digital transformation. The authorities of the Nicaraguan health sector have given priority to the development and implementation of IT tools as an axis for increasing coverage and access to health with equity, quality, efficiency and effectiveness.

With the mobilization of approximately 1 million 450 thousand dollars, donated by the governments of the United States and Canada, it has contributed to the implementation of the information system of the family and community health model (SIMOFAC) and to the development of the vaccination register (SIPAI), as well as the entry of patient data in hospital emergencies for follow-up. This will facilitate the exchange of information on the patient’s condition and real-time teleconsultations.

Computerized platforms for self-assessment of the quality of care in care centers have also been developed and implemented. All this accompanied by training for health personnel, in the different areas of knowledge, through the Public Health Virtual Campus of PAHO Node Nicaragua.

To implement these digital developments, technological equipment has been acquired that will be donated to the Ministry of Health to be used by the family and community health teams of approximately 272 sectors belonging to the local comprehensive health care systems of Matagalpa, Boaco, Chontales and dude.

During the donation of 600 tablets, the Minister of Health – Dr. Martha Reyes and the PAHO/WHO Representative in Nicaragua – Engineer Ana Treasure were present.
