Nicolás Pizarro and “Carquilot” qualify for the Queen Elizabeth II Cup Grand Prix

El binomio del olímpico Nicolás Pizarro-Carquilot conquered the prueba Desafío 1.55 del Torneo CSI5*/2* North American of Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada, luego de un recorrido limpio y con ello clasificar al Gran Premio de la Copa Queen Elizabeth II, de this Saturday.

“It was a memorable afternoon because I have had this horse (Carquilot) since he was young and he is coming back after an injury of several years,” the rider told the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE).

On Canadian Peter Holmes’ 480-metre track, Pizarro-Carquilot came out fast to complete the course in under 72 seconds on a first lap to force a tiebreaker in which they eventually stopped the clock in 42.25 seconds for first place.

“It’s a five star level where he (the horse) deserves to be, winning and always giving his best, now ready for the Grand Prix tomorrow, Saturday,” he commented.

There were ten combinations from five nations that took part in the first contest of the Canadian event where the Mexican duo put the pressure on to force the rivals to a fast, but also clean course.

“I felt Carquilot had to jump here. It is a place where the horses feel good and very rarely have difficulties and I see it as good for jumping anywhere,” added Pizarro Suárez.

The top five horse/jockey combinations qualified for the Queen Elizabeth II Cup Grand Prix, scheduled for Saturday.
