Montreal Masters 1000: the complex journey of the Argentines

In the world of tennis, August has only one place for fans to rest their eyes: in North America. It has already been launched Masters 1000 in Canada, then the event appears in Cincinnati to give way to the majestic US Open at the end of the course. The reality is that the hard-court tournament on Canadian soil did not play a good game for the Argentines who already sent Francisco Cerúndolo out of the tournament on his debut.

The draw for the albicelestes rackets was not the best of each at the start of the Masters 1000 in Montreal. Who has already suffered it and only spent hours playing in the tournament was Francois Cerundolo (27th), the sensational tennis player who came from a crying champion in Bastad and semi-finalist in Hamburg. The truth is that the fifth Master of the year for the porteño had the worst ending.

He was eliminated in the first round at the hands of Russian Karen Khachanov (28th) 7-6 (4), 5-7 and 6-3. Cerúndolo is the highest ranked Argentine tennis player behind Diego Schwartzman (15th) and what better reality does he face so far this season. The truth is, in the first encounter with the Russian, the 23-year-old from Buenos Aires suffered his 13th defeat so far this year. So Francisco already has the lead in the next competition on North American soil: the Cincinnati Masters 1000 which begins on August 13.

Anyway, the Albiceleste presence is still alive in Montreal. Sebastien Baez (32nd) and Diego Schwartzman will be the other representatives on Canadian soil. Who takes the job after Cerúndolo’s defeat is Báez. The 21-year-old tennis player starts with a tough nut to crack. Nick Kyrgios (63rd) appeared at the start of the race. The Australian has just been runner-up at Wimbledon and has always been a tough opponent to face.

Also, Báez’s walk is not the best considering the great level he has shown. There are already three tournaments in which the Argentine bids farewell to the first round. In this way, to change his luck, Báez travels to Kyrgios at 4:30 p.m. on his Canadian debut. If he wins in the next round, another heavyweight appears, Daniel Medvedev (1st).

To retrace the moment Diego Schwartzman He begins his journey in Montreal against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (35th). Looking for his best version, Peque has only had two wins in the last seven games and the match against Fokina would be the perfect setting for the comeback. With the balance sheet in favor of the Argentinian with 3 victories, Diego starts at 7:30 p.m. and already knows who his rival will be if he wins in the first round: the winner between David Goffin or Albert Ramos.

Montreal and Toronto share the main role in the first competition which sees the action in the North American soil before the US Open.
