Mexico reaches 22 gold medals at Pan American Games; but Canada is getting dangerously close

Mexican divers Osmar Olvera and Rodrigo Diego won a gold medal in the men’s synchronized 3m springboard at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, representing Osmar’s third gold medal in this continental event and he commented on it .
“Three gold medals, the truth is that that’s how I visualized it, that’s what I trained for and I enjoy every competition, every dive and the truth is that I feeling very happy, I finish with a good taste in my mouth and I come back more than motivated for what is to come.
For her part, Arantxa Chávez won silver in individual diving on the 3m springboard.
In cycling, Jessica Salazar, Daniela Gaxiola and Yuli Verdugo reached the top of the podium and became continental champions by winning the women’s team sprint.
In sports shooting, Alejandra Zavala of Jalisco won a gold medal in the 25-meter pistol event, set a Pan American record with 29 points and also punched her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the Mexican duel, Paola Longoria won gold by beating Monserrat Mejía 3-0 in the women’s singles to become Pan American champion for the tenth time in her career and anticipated that these would be her last continental matches.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo Montoya and Francisco Mar claim first place in the men’s racquetball doubles, after beating a Canadian duo.
And in rowing, Miguel Ángel Carballo and Alexis López García won a gold medal in the lightweight men’s short row double pair.
This Tuesday’s harvest was 6 gold medals for Mexico, which now has 22; by 51 from the United States, which is firmly at the top of the medal table and 20 from Canada in third place, but which is dangerously close.
