Jorge Villalpando named new technical director of York United of Canada | Football TUDN

Jorge Villalpando was appointed new technical and sporting director of the York United FC of Canadaas announced by the club itself on its social networks.

The former Mexican goalkeeper, who left the bench a few months ago Tlaxcala Coyoteswill perform for the first time outside his country.

“Football is and always has been my passion. I played in Liga MX for 13 years, I also managed an Ascencio MX team for 3 years and after retiring I went to study for a master's degree in Valencia (Spain ) Sports management and that's why my life has always been linked to football,” Villalpando said.

“I want to be part of history and York United FC is the perfect place to achieve that goal,” added Villalpando.

Villalpando spent a lot of time preparing for this challenge. While playing at the highest level, he enrolled in one of Mexico's top universities and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.

“Bit by the higher education bug, he traveled to Spain after retiring from football in 2018 and completed his MBA in sports management at the European Sports Business School in Valencia,” York said United in a statement.

“Between 2021 and 2023, he was head coach of the Tlaxcala Coyotes in Mexico's second division,” the Canadian team noted about the Mexican, who was a goalkeeper in Mexico for clubs like Puebla, Toluca, Atlas, Jaguares and Pachucaamong others.
