Holguín, August 30.- The Frank País International Airport, in Holguín, today resumed normal operations after a temporary closure caused by a plane of the Canadian airline Sunwing which left the runway before beginning its take-off maneuver .

Miguel Andrés Peña Peña, general director of the aerodrome, confirmed to ACN that the security incident occurred on Tuesday at 8:35 p.m., when the Boeing 737-800 MAX, which was monitoring flight SWG645 bound for Montreal, during the turn maneuver to the take-off position, it exceeded the established limits and caused the main gear to sink and the resulting immobilization of the aircraft.

The event led to the activation of the action plans established for these eventualities and no damage was reported to the 180 passengers on board, nor preliminary to the aircraft, which is on the ramp of the Holguin airport until the authorities’ investigation process is completed. competent, he explained.

Peña Peña clarified that at the time of the accident, the aerodrome had a recently paved runway and a well-functioning light beacon system and that all weather conditions were met for safe operations, it is why a commission will be created to investigate the causes that caused this. eventuality.

For security reasons, Frank País International Airport has diverted the three planned operations of Swift Air SWQ281, Sunwing Airline SWG641 and Viva Aerobus VIV417 to alternative terminals, it said.
