Canadian rapper Drake surprised his supporters by announcing that he would retire from the stage for at least a year to resolve a health problem that had affected him for several years.
“I probably won’t be doing music for a while. I need to focus on my health first and foremost, and I’ll talk about that soon,” the singer said on his SiriusXM show, “Table for One.”
The award-winning artist also noted that he “has been having the craziest stomach issues in years. I’m just saying it like it is.”
“So I have to focus on my health and I have to do it well, and I’m going to do it. I have a lot of other things that I would like to focus on,” said the artist, who did not gave more details about his illness, told his audience.
He also told them in his surprise announcement: “I’m going to lock the studio door for a while. I don’t even know (for how long). Maybe a year or so, maybe a little more.”
The singer’s announcement comes as his eighth album “For All The Dogs” is released, which features 23 songs that he performs alongside guest artists such as Bad Bunny, Sza, 21 Savage, Chief Kee and Sexxy Red, among others.
Also after last Thursday, he featured his 5-year-old son Adonis in the music video for his new song “8AM in Charlotte,” the second single from Drake’s eighth studio album, which bought Tupac’s ring last July , Shakur sold it at auction for more than a million dollars.
