Cuba present in the Volleyball Final Six in Mexico

The Cuban team led by Robertlandy Simón will travel this Thursday to Nayarit, Mexico, the July 11-17 venue for the Norceca Final Six Pan American Volleyball Cup, which will award a ticket to the Santiago 2023 multi-sport continental event. .

Alongside the capital giant will be central defenders Roamy Alonso (Matanzas) and Javier Concepción (Havana), and corner hitters Miguel Ángel López (Cienfuegos), Marlon Yant (Villa Clara), Osniel Mergarejo (Sancti Spíritus) and Julio César Cardenas (Massacres).

As opposites appear Miguel Sánchez Bozhuleva (Havana), left-hander Jesús Herrera (Artemisa) and Miguel David Gutiérrez (Villa Clara); as setters Adrián Goide (Sancti Spíritus) and Liván Taboada (Havana), and Yonder García (Havana) and José Miguel Gutiérrez (Villa Clara) as liberos.

Regarding the team that won the Challenger Norceca Final Four in Pinar del Río 2022, blocker Liván Osoria and setter Christian Thondike do not appear, while for Simón it will be his debut this season with the national team.

Nicolás Vives, technical director, will be assisted by Yosvany Muñoz. The group is completed by doctor Ramsés Raymond, physiotherapist Pedro Roche and national commissioner Jorge Sosa, at the head of the delegation.

The tournament will also contribute to the preparation of the global challenger which will take place in South Korea from July 27 to 31, the winner of which will qualify for the Volleyball Nations League 2023.

The Greater Antilles squad, the most complete in recent years, will start on Monday against the Dominican Republic and will successively face the United States (12), Canada (13), Puerto Rico (14) and Mexico (15).

The top four teams will meet in the semi-finals on the 16th, based on second-vs-third and first-vs-fourth places. The winners of these challenges will discuss the Cup and the bronze medal losers on Sunday the 17th.

The main Dominican, Mexican and Puerto Rican teams should participate, not the United States and Canada, as they participate in the Volleyball Nations League 2022.
