Canadian Revenge Thriller 'The G' Lands UK Deal

EXCLUSIVE: British company Lightbulb Film Distribution picks up Canadian revenge thriller GRAM.

Written and directed by Karl R. Hearne, the film stars Dale Dickey (Bones of winter, hell or high water). The film will have its UK premiere on February 29 at the Glasgow Film Festival. The synopsis reads: A mysterious old woman seeks revenge on the corrupt legal guardian who ruined her life.

Lightbulb has acquired the rights from UKI and ANZ. Level Films will distribute the film in Canada.

“We are happy to have purchased it. GRAM following its recent world premiere in Tallinn Black Nights. “Karl is a visionary filmmaker, a new voice in an elevated genre, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey with him,” said Peter Thompson, director of sales and acquisitions.

Writer and director Karl R. Hearne added: “We are delighted that Lightbulb will be showing our film in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. This film is a dark winter film based on real-life parental deception and inspired by my own grandmother's stories and characters. She is a woman who, whatever her age or situation, refuses to accept that her life is over. I consider it a story of revenge against one’s own old age.”

The Glasgow Film Festival runs from February 28 to March 10. The festival opened with the UK premiere of the latest film Rose Glass. Love is bloody, with Kristen Stewart. Filmmaker Viggo Mortensen is among the guests at the festival, where he will take part in a live broadcast of “In Conversation”, followed by the UK premiere of his new western. Dead people don't hurt. The film stars Mortensen alongside Vicky Krieps, Danny Huston and Scottish actor Solly McLeod. Filmmaker Ben Wheatley will also be at the festival to screen his first film, lower terrace, followed by a question and answer session.
