This Friday, the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justine Trudeau, announced the adoption of a new series of sanctions aimed at rejecting the actions that, since February 24, the forces of the Russian army have been carrying out in Ukraine.
One of the main features of this new package of sanctions or measures imposed by Canada on Ukraine is the the inclusion of sanctions that will be applied against one of the men close to the Russian leader, exactly at the head of the Orthodox Church in this country, the so-called the patriarch Cyril, who, in addition to another list of influential people in Russia, for whom the Trudeau government, are considered sources that promote disinformation.
After the announcement of the new sanctions package, Russia spoke through its spokeswoman at the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who claimed, according to statements collected by international media, that “sanctions against the patriarch can only be decided by satanics”.
This package of sanctions which included Patriarch Kirill, adds to others already imposed by some countries such as the United Kingdom, which had also included the religious leader, considered one of the men who speaks in the ear of Vladimir Putin, and who has publicly expressed his support for the Kremlin’s cause on Ukrainian territory.
In the case of the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom, they became known a few days later, within the framework of the sixth set of sanctions imposed by the European Unionand under pressure from Hungary, the name of Patriarch Kirill was withdrawn, under a series of arguments put forward by the government in Budapest.
At that time, Hungary warned that such an exclusion, or better, an opposition to the inclusion of Kirill in the list of EU sanctionedanswered “a question of principle”, warning that for the government of his country the defense of the religious tolerance.
In the case of Canada’s sanctioning of Kirill, being considered one of the great supporters of military action in Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country, Melanie Joywas responsible for announcing them, as part of the G20 Summitin which Ukraine and Russia are currently operating, through their respective foreign ministers.
With regard to this new package of sanctions against Russia, it turned out that it included 29 people in favor of propaganda in favor of the Russian state and, as we have already noted, they are considered by the Trudeau government as agents of disinformation.
Along the same lines, the sanctions have included 15 Kremlin-controlled entities, which have also joined the Russian propaganda process that validates the current military intervention in Ukraine.
In this sense, the list of this new sanctions package, in addition to including Kirill, also includes people such as Sumbatovitch Gasparianwho currently works as a senior official of the international media RT, and more so of its international department.
It is important to note that due to the current context of the war in Ukraine and the way RT, a media outlet heavily influenced by the Russian government, had been removed from television schedules in Canadaand your signal has been blocked.
“Today we make it clear to those who traffic in deception: you will be held accountablesaid the Canadian diplomat.
With the new announcement, the number of Russians who have been sanctioned by Canada, the number of individuals targeted has exceeded 1,150, in a list that also includes people of Ukrainian and Belarusian descent.
The current G20 summit has been marked by particular tensions, given the presence of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the slights and criticisms of representatives of Western countries who publicly questioned and rejected the occupation of Ukraine.
In this context, Sergrei Lavrov, left one of the multilateral spacesfeeling exposed in the midst of the growing pressure that exists in space, which is also occurring in a territory considered neutral in relation to the current conflict: Indonesia.
