Santiago de Chile, November 5 (EFE).- Brazil beat Canada this Sunday in men’s team table tennis at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and regained the title it lost in the continental games four years ago years.
Led by Hugo Calderano, who had just been crowned three-time Pan American singles champion, the Brazilian team easily beat the Canadians 3-1.
In the first match of the dispute, Brazilian duo Vitor Ishiy and Eric Jouti quickly defeated Canadians Siméon Martin and Eugene Wang 3-0, in sets 11-9, 11-5 and 11-6.
The beating was similar in the second match (3-1) in which Calderano, after a first set 10-12 won by the Canadian Edwuard Ly, attacked his rival forcefully in the next three segments, who finished 11- 0, 11-5 and 11-4.
Canada responded in the third with Wang, who beat rival Jouti 0-3, in a tough dispute for the North American after sets 9-11, 8-11 and 10-12.
The Brazilian attack came in the fourth match, again with Calderano beating Martin 3-0 after segments 11-6, 11-9 and 11-7.
Brazil won one of the bronze medals in Lima after being champions at Toronto 2015, the year when Canada was at the bottom of the podium. Since then, the North American country has not managed to get on the podium.
The historic champion, however, remains the United States with 23 gold medals. Brazil follows with 17 and Canada with 14.
