Boluarte considers that the demonstrators demanding a Constituent Assembly are deceived

“It does not correspond to Dina Boluarte, it does not correspond to the Executive (…) They deceive (the demonstrators) by saying that it is Dina Boluarte who must settle the question of the Constituent Assembly. That’s not true,” the president said in statements to the media.

Likewise, Boluarte lamented that the demands of an Assembly are “a pretext to continue to block the roads and continue to break the institutional framework of the country”, since the achievement of these advances does not happen “overnight”. .

On the other hand, the president pointed out that the other main demand reflected in the protests, an electoral advance, is already addressed by the Parliament of the Andean Nation, according to the Peruvian newspaper “El Comercio”.

Parts of Peru’s population have taken to the streets in different parts of the country since the ousting and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo in early December after a frustrated bid to assume more power.

Among the main demands of the protesters is the departure of Boluarte – hitherto “number two” of Castillo –, the holding of new elections and the preparation of a new Constitution for Peru.
