The Spanish walker Álvaro Martín entered this Thursday in the group of candidates to win the prize for “best athlete” of the year 2023 by the International Athletics Federation, World Athletics.

Like the 20 km and 35 km world walking champion, María Pérez nominated on Wednesday, Martín is also among the 11 best of the year, awaiting the winner on December 11, having also proclaimed herself world walking champion of 20 and 35 kilometers to Budapest.

A three-way vote will determine the five finalists on November 13 and 14. The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics family will vote via email, while fan feedback will also be taken into account. The Council’s vote will represent 50% of the result, while the votes of the World Athletics family and the public will each represent 25%.
