Actors union SAG-AFTRA authorizes strike against video game companies

Big titleSep 26, 2023

Members of the actors’ union SUGSAFTRA voted overwhelmingly in favor of authorizing a strike against video game companies. Union negotiators, representing some 2,600 players, have been unsuccessfully negotiating for nearly a year for a new interactive media deal that offers wage increases to offset high inflation and safeguards against unregulated use of intelligence artificial.

The strike authorization comes as Hollywood actors remain on strike even after major film and television studios reached a tentative agreement with the Writers Guild of America on Sunday. Although the union has suspended picketing, its members continue to strike pending ratification of the collective agreement. Writers Guild of America leaders are expected to vote Tuesday to approve the contract, and once ratified, it will be made available to the union’s approximately 11,000 screenwriters for ratification. Hollywood studios and actors on strike since July are not expected to hold negotiations for the moment.
