U2 is getting closer to a good faith announcement regarding this series on MSG Sphere which we have been following for a few months.
The Edge reportedly shared footage from the show with actor and “SmartLess” podcast host Sean Hayes. And Bono joked and denied Las Vegas residency on this podcast, co-hosted by Jason Bateman and Will Arnett.
In an exchange for an upcoming episode of “SmartLess,” reported by the Irish Sun tabloid, Hayes told Bono that he recently had dinner with The Edge. The musician showed Hayes plans for the U2 concert at The Sphere and said, “It’s amazing.”
Hayes explained, “The Edge told me they were touring Las Vegas and showed me the plans for this new theater, it’s going to be amazing. It’s a brand new venue, isn’t it?”
Bono replied, “Now you’re a news network, because it’s breaking news! It’s Edge’s fault! But it’s great.”
The podcast will be released on Monday.
It’s probably the closest we’ve gotten to a confirmation of U2 opening at the 17,500-seat venue, still in development behind the Venetian/Palazzo. We hope that within a month we will know that U2 will be making their debut at The Sphere at the end of September, with around ten concerts spread over six weekends.
Bono, 62, was cautious about the plans, saying: “We haven’t signed it, but if we sign it, if we sign it, I will say if we can achieve what we’re talking about, it won’t work.” will be unlike anything we have done before.
“It’s like nothing Las Vegas has ever seen before. If that happens, it will be truly extraordinary.
It’s unclear if drummer and band co-founder Larry Mullen Jr. will be performing at the Las Vegas concerts. In December, he told the Washington Post that he would undergo surgery this year that would take him away from performing.
Mullen has battled neck and elbow issues, and also has a history of knee and back pain.
This week, the band announced a March 17 release date for “Songs of Surrender,” their reinvented and re-recorded collection of 40 songs from the past.

Planet Hollywood headliner Criss Angel attended David Blane’s hilarious show “In Spades” at Resorts World Theater on Sunday night. This time there was no choice, just letters. Angel remained standing as Blaine answered questions from the audience. Blaine had just finished his (fantastic) 11 minute apnea number and mentioned that his daughter preferred that he stay on stage while he recovered from the performance.
As Blaine chatted with the audience, Angel stood unintroduced from his seat in the middle of the lower section. He recounted his son Johnny Crisstopher’s battle with cancer. Angel also wished Blaine well with his career in Resorts World. Blaine nodded, smiled and said, “I’d love to meet your son, Criss, and thank you so much.” God bless him, and God bless you, and God bless everyone.”
Angel then posted a photo of the two backstage, also with a congratulatory message and saying, “Thank you for your hospitality.”
