Guadalajara (Mexico), February 12 (EFE).- Argentine coach Fernando Gago said on Monday that Chivas de Guadalajara would make a mistake if he relied on the advantage he had for beating the Canadian Forge 1-3 in the first leg. phase of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
“We have an advantage, but we have to try to extend it and look for the ranking. The biggest mistake you can make is to think that the ranking is already done. This thinking is not our part,” he said at a press conference.
Chivas beat Forge 1-3 away thanks to two goals from Cade Cowell and one from Ricardo Marín.
Gago, who arrived on the Guadalajara bench last December, said the team had a “thirst for transcendence”.
“There is a lot of hunger to transcend, I see it in the way we train and live together. The result is a consequence of what was done throughout the week,” he said in reference to the match that will be played this Tuesday.
The captain of the Chivas, Jesús Sánchez, said that his team was united and without worrying about the agenda of commitments that they would have in the next two weeks in case they obtained a pass to the round of 16, in which they would face by winning the series between Mexican America and Nicaraguan Real Estelí.
“We just focus on what we are going to do today and look forward to tomorrow's game,” he said. EFE
