The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed 129 casesmainly in children under 5 years old and adults over 65 years old, with at least 44 hospitalizations.

The outbreak has spread to several Canadian provinces and has been linked to contribution of melons from the Malachita and Rudy brands, coming from Mexico according to the labels.

In November, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (AIAC) requested the withdrawal of Malachita Melon sold between October 11 and November 14, then extending the measure to products of Rudy on November 24.

Both PHAC as the FDA of the United States are collaborating in the investigation of this epidemic, which has also affected several states of the United States, demonstrating the same genetic strain of bacteria.

Both countries continue to investigate to determine the exact origin and take preventative measures.
