José Joaquin Arcega-Whiteside became the first Spanish player in the Canadian Football League (CFL) when his signing with the Toronto Argonauts was announced on Monday.
Arcega-Whiteside, born in Zaragoza in 1996 – son of former Spanish basketball player Joaquín Arcegabrother of Fernando and José Ángel – and who played with Stanford University (United States) in the United States college football league, joins the Toronto team after being part of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL (2019-2021), the Seattle Seahawks (2022) and the Atlanta Falcons (2023).
The Spaniard, who also has American nationality, plays the position of wide receiver.
The Argonauts, one of the oldest professional sports teams in North America and founded in 1873, have the most titles in the CFL.
