Riots in Brussels, Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam after Morocco’s victory over Belgium

Various acts of vandalism were unleashed this Sunday in at least four European cities after the victory of the Moroccan team against the Belgian. In Brussels, even before the end of the match, in the city center “several dozen people, some of them hooded, sought confrontation with the police, which compromised public safety”, announced the police in a statement.

Riot police were also deployed in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In the second, a group of around 500 young fans of the Moroccan team threw glass and fireworks at the police. In the Dutch capital, several buses and trams had to change their routes in the Eastern district after fires broke out on the road. Firecrackers were also thrown and at least one car was set on fire.

In The Hague, other supporters opened the doors of cars driving in the street. When the situation escalated, officers moved in to separate the people, according to their spokespersons.

In other cities, such as Utrecht and Amersfoort, the celebration had a festive tone, with some street lights.
