Wildfires in Canada again affect air quality in the United States

Smoke from wildfires in Canada continues to wreak havoc in the United States, as environmental authorities have warned of highly unsanitary or emergency conditions facing millions of people, especially in Detroit And Chicago.

“Air quality across a large swath of the Midwest is unhealthy/very unhealthy today due to smoke from Canada’s wildfires seeping south. Although forecast details will change, similar conditions are expected in the coming days.”warned the National Weather Service (NWS).

Consequently, US authorities issued alerts from Ontario, northern Minnesota and Michigan to New York. Additionally, warnings are reaching the southeastern states of North Carolina and Georgia.

It should be mentioned that these alerts come at a time when much of the South and Midwest of the United States is overwhelmed by a brutal heat wave that affects millions of people.

Regarding air conditions in some major US cities, authorities recorded a “very unhealthy” air quality index of 215 in Chicago early Wednesday.

“Chicago air quality remains very unhealthy today. Limit time outdoors”posted the Chicago Office of Emergency Management on Twitter.

In the region of Detroitwith 4.3 million people, had the worst air quality in the country with an AQI of 306 or “dangerous”.

Meanwhile, in New York, authorities warned Wednesday that “Air quality is expected to deteriorate this week due to wildfires in Canada.”
