What happened on November 12?

On November 12, 1990, the enthronement of Akihito as the 125th Emperor of Japan. The ceremony lasted 30 minutes according to the same rites used in the Japanese imperial household for a thousand years. More than 2,500 guests, including dignitaries from 157 countries, including Prince Felipe de Borbón, attended the proclamation ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. A total of seven banquets were organized to celebrate the enthronement of the new emperor.

Akihito ascended the Chrysanthemum Throne after more than a year of mourning the death of his father, Emperor Hirohito. The official name of his reign is the Heisei era and upon his death he will be renamed Emperor Heisei.

On November 12, 1912, in Antarctica, the Corpse of British Robert Falcon Scott and those of the members of the Terra Nova expedition he commanded, the second to reach the South Pole after that led by the Norwegian Roald Amundsen. When returning from the Pole, they did not receive support from teams with dog sleds coming from base camp, dying on March 29 due to extremely low temperatures of -40 ºC. Until more than seven months had passed, their bodies could not be located.
