Likewise, he said very categorically that “repression exists in Nicaragua, there are many violations of human rights. Canada will always support the people of Nicaragua.

“We cannot remain silent on Nicaragua. We condemn arbitrary detention, media repression, human rights abuses, we call for the immediate release of all political prisoners,” he continued in his presentation to the OAS plenary.

In addition, he asked the regime that “those who are detained must be treated with dignity and must be in regular contact with their families”, this because many new political prisoners have been held incommunicado for 3 months, as the cases of journalist Víctor Ticay. , Olesia Munoz and Jason Salazar.

“Let’s work together to resist the threats of democracy, responding to democracy and human rights,” insisted Joly.

This Friday, the resolution entitled “The crisis of human rights in Nicaragua” will be put to the vote, with which it is intended to reaffirm that the regime of Daniel Ortega continues to violate the human rights of Nicaraguans.
