Warriors ban Andrew Wiggins from playing for Canada at Paris Olympics

Concern is growing in Canada after a report by Toronto Star reporter Doug Smith, who received news of Andrew Wiggins.

The information Smith is addressing is that the Golden State Warriors will not allow Wiggins to play with Team Canada in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The reason is believed to be that Golden State is afraid Wiggins could suffer an injury during that event, especially as they try to negotiate a trade for the veteran, Smith added.

Wiggins is insured and medically cleared by Canada Basketball and is reportedly unhappy with the Warriors' decision. Neither is national team manager Rowan Barrett.

“For us, Andrew was fine. We talk to him constantly, he's been training for weeks and preparing for it. And then I got a call from Golden State a day or two before camp saying they were holding him back.”Barrett told ESPN.

“So from what I see, it’s not Andrew’s decision, it’s the team’s. So he won't be with us. »he added.

Wiggins has not worn the Canadian jersey since the Tokyo Olympic qualifiers in July 2021 and was one of 20 invitees to Canada's training camp.

Canada is scheduled to play an exhibition game against the United States, led by Warriors coach Steve Kerr, on July 10 in Las Vegas.

The Canadians are in Olympic Group A with Australia and two other nations yet to be determined. Their first match will be on July 27 against the winner of the Greek qualifying tournament.
