Electronic military recruitment: this is how Russia intends to encourage the enlistment of its troops
Russia seeks to strengthen its army in Ukraine and for this it will try to avoid the image of last September. At the end of 2022, after President Vladimir Putin announced the partial mobilization of reservists, Hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens fled en masse to neighboring countriessuch as Finland, Moldova, Georgia or even Mongolia.
This exile has forced many of these countries to take urgent measures to curb the migratory effect generated on Russian territory. In Finland, the still Prime Minister, Sanna Marin, announced the agreement with the opposition to build a fence in the most vulnerable sections of the border with Russia, extended up to 260 kilometers, i.e. between 10 and 20% of the 1,340 km border between Finland and Russia. “It’s about being able to make sure the border is well guarded and being able to anticipate what might happen there,” he said at the time.
To prevent something similar from happening, Russia implemented a new system of military conscription. Unlike the previous one, in which the mobilization order had to be delivered to citizens in person, this certificate will now be received electronically, through the website of the country’s public services, where all citizens are registered. Once they receive this order, conscripts must report to the nearest military enlistment office.
