This week, the mental health crisis affecting hundreds of thousands of people in Canada erupted with four violent events that demand the attention of authorities and deserve deep reflection from the rest of society.
Amqui, Quebec. Monday March 13. Two people died and nine were injured after the driver of a vehicle deliberately ran over several pedestrians in the town of Amqui, in the province of Quebec. The driver turned himself in to authorities. The attacker was identified as Steeve Gagnon, 39, suffering from emotional problems.
Have. Wednesday March 15. In Milton, Ontario, Bradi McCoy, a 22-year-old woman, was attacked on the street with chemicals by another 57-year-old woman and a family member, causing permanent injuries. The police arrested the attacker.
Edmonton. Thursday March 16. The agents of the edmonton police, Travis Jordan, 35, and Brett Ryan, 30, lost their lives when they were shot by a 16-year-old boy who then shot his mother and killed himself. Police responded to a call for help regarding a domestic dispute.
Montreal. Friday March 17. In Montreal, Arthur Galarneau, a 19-year-old young man with mental health problems, was arrested after killing 3 members of his family with a knife in the Rosemont neighborhood.
