Venezuela secured their place in this stage thanks to a narrow victory against Mexico, after an impeccable group stage in which they added nine points. “We got our ticket to the quarterfinals thanks to a lot of work and now we are ready to continue our good streak,” commented Néstor Lorenzo, the strategist of “Vinotinto”. The players stand out as Eduard Bello of Mazatlán and Salomón Rondón of Pachuca, who played a key role in the Venezuelan offensive.

For his part, Canada advanced after a goalless draw with Chile, showing solid defense but needing to improve its offensive output. “We are happy to be in the quarter-finals, but we know we have to be more energetic in front of the rival goal,” said the Canadian coach, aware of the importance of converting opportunities into goals.

Historically, Venezuela and Canada have only played two previous meetings, both ending in draws. This will be an opportunity to break the historical balance and qualify for the semi-finals of the Copa América 2024.
