Venezuela categorically rejected this Wednesday the interventionist statements of the Government of Canada, in connection with the regional and municipal elections of November 21, 2021.
This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Félix Plasencia, on his account on the social network Twitter.
The Bolivarian government issued a statement in which it deplores that “due to the absence of its own foreign policy and to have complied with the expectations of the United States, the Canadian government is resorting to the disqualification of an electoral process , widely endorsed by over 300 international observers, making – in more appropriate terms – a political pamphlet more than a declaration of a sovereign state”.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the interventionist statements of the Canadian government, in connection with the electoral process of November 21, 2021, when the Venezuelan people came out freely to exercise their right to vote.
It is regrettable that, in the absence of its own foreign policy and in order to meet the expectations of the United States, the Canadian government resorts to the disqualification of an electoral process, largely validated by more than 300 international observers, leading – more appropriately – a political pamphlet rather than a declaration of a sovereign state.
Ironically, Canada questions the background to recent elections, but it was the only country that took concrete action to prevent Venezuelan voters residing in Canadian territory from voting at the Venezuelan embassy and consulates in 2018.
Likewise, Canada speaks about the effects on the economy and human rights, while applauding, supporting and promoting illegal coercive measures against all the Venezuelan people and which constitute crimes against humanity.
In the face of such cynicism, the government of Venezuela demands that Canada immediately end its illegal coercive measures and cease its political and material support to corrupt individuals who promote the misappropriation of Venezuelan state assets.
Unlike Canada, Venezuela is a country free from foreign tutelage and it shows it in every election in which the model of participatory and protagonist democracy is deepened, enshrined in the Constitution and supported by the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.
