United States Yes Canada put on the discussion table with Mexico the question of the energy policy implemented in the country, within the framework of the meetings on the occasion of the two years of USMCA.
During the bilateral meetings that the Secretary of the Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, had, on the one hand, with the American Trade Representative, katherine taiand, on the other hand, with the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade of Canada, Mary Ng, the common theme was Mexico’s energy policy.
The Canadian Minister “reiterated Canada’s concern about the investment climate in Mexico, particularly in the mining and energy sectors, and reaffirmed the importance of an open dialogue to create business opportunities for the growth of both countries”.

Ng also expressed Canadians’ concern over Mexico’s policy that delays the approval of biotech products.
One of the agreements between Mexico and Canada was the creation of a high-level economic dialogue program that will provide a new forum to increase collaboration and strengthen competitiveness.
While the United States government has not reported any details of Tai and Clouthier’s meeting, our country’s Department of Economy said that in the officials’ speech “among the topics they discussed were: Mexico’s energy policy, the marina de vaquita, the social commitments contained in the T-MEC and customs issues”.

“Secretary Couthier stressed that for Mexico, the commercial relationship with the United States is a priority because it is our main commercial partner and investor,” according to the agency.
