More than 3,000 people have already been evacuated from the flooded area under Ukrainian control, according to Zelensky.
More than 3,000 people have already been evacuated from Kherson and Mikolaiv regions, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said on his Telegram channel. The President then underlined that “again, this is free territory” under Ukrainian control, and continued: “In the occupied territory, it is only possible to help people in certain areas: terrorists Russians are doing everything possible for the victims of the disaster are as much as possible”.
The president later reiterated that “Russian shelling continues, even at evacuation points. Russia does not provide any real help to the population of the flooded areas, not for propaganda purposes, but for the good of the population. The Russian state and the Russian leadership must bear separate, fair and strict responsibility for all of this,” he stressed, referring to the destruction of the Nova Kajovka dam and the floods that caused it to collapse.
Zelensky also again alluded to “international organizations” which he said “should act in our areas, which we have not yet left. Every life is important: the whole Kherson region, the whole south. Every city and every village. We will do everything possible and impossible to ensure that the aid reaches all our people”.
“I thank each of our rescuers, military and police, local communities and international organizations currently operating in the Kherson region and the Mykolaiv region, all of our volunteers, each of those who help to save people, animals and life in general in the disaster area. I thank the journalists, who are spreading the truth and telling the world the stories of the people who have suffered,” the president continued.
