Turkey confirms US-Russian meeting on nuclear weapons
Turkey today confirmed the meeting between the US and Russian secret services in Ankara to talk about nuclear weapons, reports the Turkish Anadolu agency.
“We confirm that Turkey today hosted a meeting between the heads of the secret services of Russia and the United States,” said Turkish Presidency Communications Director Fahrettin Altun. The meeting focused on international security threatsespecially about youSo nuclear weapons he added.
Altun pointed out that Turkeyafter hosting a negotiation between senior Russian and Ukrainian officials last March, and facilitating the Ukrainian grain export dealwill pursue negotiations with all actors involved in the conflict in favor of peace.“This meeting, organized by the (Turkish) National Intelligence Agency, represents another great contribution of Turkey and its President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to world peace,” Altun said.
The meeting between William Burns, of the CIA, and Sergei Naryshkin, of the Russian secret services, of which Ukraine had been previously informed, took place in Ankara and in there were no “negotiations of any kind”, according to Washington. The meeting took place within the framework of the communication channels open with Russia “on risk management”, in particular nuclear and those existing for strategic stability, a spokeswoman for the White House told EFE.
