Tower One rolls out new sites for operators in Colombia and Ecuador

Canadian tower One Wireless rolled out 13 new sites in Colombia and Ecuador in February, 5 more than the same month in 2022 and the same number delivered in January, according to the company’s construction reports.

Of the new towers, 12 are in Colombia and 1 in Ecuador. With the new deployments, Tower One ended the month with 374 towers in Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico – its main markets – and 412 tenants for those sites.

Tenants refers to the number of customers renting services in each tower. Space rented by a customer in five towers counts as five tenants.

In Colombia, the towers have been deployed in different locations in Unguia, Nuqui, Bajo Baudo, Certegui, Novita, Jurado and Alto Baudo, all located in the department of Chocó, while towers have also been built in Ituango and Venecia (Antioquia ) and Centelsa (Cauca Valley).

The Ecuadorian site was set up in Guayaquil, capital of the province of Guayas.

All the sites, except those of Guayaquil and Centelsa, are in rural areas. As usual, the towers have a 10-year lease period and are projects green field.

The company’s main customers are Telefónica, which leases approximately 38% of the sites, WOM Colombia (31%), Tigo Colombia de Millicom (24%), Altán Redes de México (4%), Claro Colombia (3%) and DirecTV Columbia (1%).

The other customers are AT&T in Mexico and CNT in Ecuador.

All of these towers fit the custom built model (Custom made), which consists of building the towers after signing an emphyteutic lease with a mobile telephone operator.

The group also noted that seven build-as-a-service towers were completed in February. In this case, the company activates the structure before the request and the signature of the contracts. All of the sites completed in Colombia correspond to the latter figure.
