Toronto police murdered at Tim Hortons; perpetrator killed in Hamilton cemetery

A Toronto police officer was killed at a Tim Hortons in Mississauga and his attacker shot dead in a Hamilton cemetery after a three-city GTA chase.

Constable Andrew Hong, 48, was having lunch at 2:15 p.m. in the cafeteria when a subject shot him at close range, injuring another person at the scene.

The assailant, a 30-year-old man dressed in all black except for a yellow construction vest, fled, prompting a pursuit.

The suspect’s escape prompted authorities to issue a province-wide active shooter alert.

The same gunman then shot dead three people in Milton just before 3pm, one of whom was also killed.

Less than two hours after that shooting, just after 4:30 p.m., the suspect was fatally shot during an “interaction” with Halton and Hamilton police in Hamilton.

Until, the police he did not disclose whether the attacker had a clear motive.

During the night, the body of the deceased police officer was transferred to the coroner and during the journey, hundreds of colleagues paid him a vibrant tribute.

On Monday evening, the Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square was extinguished in mourning for the murder of Toronto police officer Andrew Hong and flags on public buildings were lowered to half-mast on Tuesday.
