The Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation annulled two concessions before an amparo in Santa María Zotoltepec, municipality of Ixtacamaxtitlán, Puebla
The Governor Miguel Barbosa Huertapointed out that there will be a consultation to determine the operation or cancellation of the sparrow miner (subsidiary of Canadian Almaden Minerals) in Santa María Zotoltepec, in the municipality of Ixtacamaxtitlan, Puebla.
During a conference, the president recalled that the project is canceled due to a resolution of the Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) which resolved an amparo, however, it ruled to exploit the natural resources responsibly and with the best technology.
“The mining company had a resolution and everything was canceled, it is called the Minera Gorrión and it is canceled by the court and there must be a consultation to be able to determine whether the federation authorizes the exploitation or not of the mineral deposits in this place, the amount I don’t know who’s making it from the profit figure, because there’s no production yet,” he said.
Miguel Barbosa acknowledged that Minera Gorrión SA de CV, a subsidiary of the Canadian company Almaden Minerals, created groups in the region for and against the project with the aim of exposing the possible extraction of gold and silver to public scrutiny.
It should be noted that the company planned to invest approximately 26 thousand 274 million pesos in the Ixtaca mining project, in the Sierra Norte de Puebla; however, it was overturned by the Nation’s Supreme Court of Justice due to complaints from residents.
“We cannot be an authority that refuses to exploit natural resources with the best technology in a moderate way and that reflects benefits for the place, the state and the country (…) I do not call them projects of death, it’s not like that”, ended.
