The day of transhumance that takes place year after year in Ávila in the vicinity of Puerto del Pico on the occasion of the return of cattle to the pastures of Gredos is always an event. So much so that for 15 editions it has been embellished with a photographic competition for this purpose so that private contributions serve, even more, to exalt this ancestral tradition.
From the live transhumance platform, the Spanish Association of Raza Avileña-Negra Ibérica and the IGP Carne de Ávila Regulatory Council are in charge of organizing this competition which has just given birth to its 2022 winners. This is Miguel Alba who won first prize with her ‘Vacada in La Cañada’ and María Adela Palomo won second prize for ‘A lo Antiguo’. Alba will receive 500 euros in kind (a collection of books and/or photographic and transhumance material) and Palomo 300. In both cases, the delivery will be made within the framework of the cattle fair to be held in September in the capital of Ávila.
The organization stresses that it was difficult to select the best both for the level and for the participation. This year, in fact, there were 50 proposals received, they explain in a press release. A jury made up of the president of the Royal Spanish Breeders Association of the Avileña – Black Ibérica breed (RAEANI), and technicians from the Royal Association and the IGP Carne de Ávila, has been entrusted with the final selection decision. . the winning photographs according to thematic criteria and the quality of the work.
