ANDthe case of the canadian Oliver Lavigne-Ortiz aka ‘Wali’, who became famous as ‘the best sniper in the world’will likely remain shrouded in the fog of war until at least the end of the conflict in Ukraine, prompted by the Russian invasion of that country.
‘Wali’, a veteran of the Canadian army and, for some mercenaries and for others a hero, would have passed through various war conflicts, from Afghanistan to Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan. A few days ago, his arrival in Ukraine was announced to fight against the Russian invasion. However, shortly after arriving, he disappeared. Russia stipulate that deceased shortly after entering the battle line during Ukraine He says he’s still active. However, they were no longer heard from.
‘Wali’ would have communicated his position in the combat zone
All information about him comes from rumourologist and propaganda. However, in circles specialized in military affairs, an insistent rumor circulates which points to a huge mistake by the shooter or his combat group which may have hastened his death.
According to them, ‘Wali‘ would have communicated his position or at least the sector in which he was – the Ukrainian sources placed him in the region of kyiv and the Russians in Mariupol -. After the sector was located by the enemy, it would have been heavily bombedfollowed by the death of ‘Wali’. I gave interviews to various media close to the combat zone.
At first it would be surprising an experienced fighter would have made such mistakes, but one could appreciate that in their previous conflicts the enemy (Taliban, Islamic State, Iraqi militias…) did not have sophisticated electronic tracking and geolocation systems, available to Russian troops. Indeed, one of the means of determining the veracity or not of certain images is the determination of the place where they were taken.
The fact is that “Wali” has not given any news for several days. His case is currently shrouded in the fog of war.
